Allergy season is upon us. Watery eyes, sore throats, and stuffy noses are all common with the temperature change and the new season. Improving your indoor air quality is an excellent way to find some relief at home.

Tips to Improve Your In-Home Air Quality:

Keep Your Windows Closed – As tempting as it may be to open the windows and let that crisp fall air inside, remember that you’re also letting in allergens. Let your HVAC system do its job to keep your home a comfortable temperature and save your sinuses the pressure.

Keep the Humidity in Mind – Just because it is cooler outside doesn’t mean the humidity is gone. Maintain a healthy level of humidity in your home to avoid things like dust mites and mold as they love moisture. Make sure you run your exhaust fan after a steamy shower, and if you are struggling with humidity in your home, consider a humidifier or dehumidifier.

Change Your Filters – If we’ve said it once, we’ll say it one hundred times. Make sure you are swapping out your dirty filters. They are responsible for removing dust, dirt, and other allergens from the air you breathe. Ensure when they become dirty that you swap them out for new, clean filters. You can also upgrade to high-efficiency HEPA filters that keep even more allergens out.

Add Some Houseplants – You can still enjoy nature even while indoors. Bring in some allergy-friendly plants to help purify the air in your home. Make sure they are in a safe place away from small children or pets.
