Unit Not Heating
Nine out of ten calls we get when a unit is not heating is usually a problem with the thermostat or a tripped breaker. Here are some suggestions if your unit will not heat:
- Make sure the setting is on “Heat”. If it was recently installed, it might be the wrong kind of thermostat, or it might be incorrectly wired.
- Try flippingĀ the circuit breaker off and thenĀ on.
Unit Is Frozen Up
- Turn off your unit, and check to see that all vents are clear and the filter is reasonably clean.
Unit Not Heating Well
- Raise the temperature to see if it responds.
- Ensure proper air flow from the vent and check filter.
- Have your unit maintenanced by a qualified professional (like us at HEP).
Unit Turns On and Off
- Check the filter.
- Check the thermostat (see below).
Temperature Widely Fluctuates
- The heat pump may not be cycling frequently enough. You might need to have your thermostat recalibrated.
Temperature Too High or Low
- Make sure the thermostat is placed away from heat sources such as heaters, windows, return vents, etc.
Unit Runs Continously
- Turn the fan’s switch to “Auto”.
Unit Makes Noise
- Squealing or Grinding: Shut off unit immediately and call us.
- Rattling: Tighten cover panels with 5/8″ screw driver.
Ducts Make Too Much Noise
- This can be prevented with duct insulation.
- Unit has to be restarted at a low temperature.
- Restart unit (refer to owner’s manual).
